CelloChanWoods

During July of this summer cellochan held it's first cello retreat/camp "CelloChanWoods." The theme of this unique cello retreat was well-being and the arts and took place at the Michigan Friends Center in Chelsea, MI. Students learned beginning meditation, experienced deep relaxation through the Trager method, and were silent during the morning except for questions for staff. (Dr. Trager believed relaxed patients with less stress healed better and faster.) Daily master classes and supervised individual practice, inside and outside, were also held in the mornings. There was ample time for open communication, hikes, swimming, and a treasure hunt in the afternoon, which created a healthy balance between the contemplative tone of the morning and outside fun in the afternoon. The ratio of students to counselors was three to one. The CelloChanWoods cello ensemble of twelve cellists performed a transcription of the Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber and the Pine Cone Rag by Martha Mier the last day of camp. Pictures can me found on the album on this page. We are already busy planning next year's camp/s and will possibly be offering and overnight session, a day camp, and an adult camp. For more information, please contact Suzanne. Sign up will begin in February and March 2009.
